Culture Beat is one of the most recognisable acts to emerge from the German dance music scene. For more than two decades, the project has enjoyed international success and remained a staple of global club culture.
Their breakthrough came in 1993 with the hit single Mr. Vain, which topped the charts in 13 countries, including Germany, United Kingdom, France, and Netherlands, and went on to become a lasting dance classic. The group’s album Serenity was also highly successful, featuring popular singles such as Got to Get It and Anything.
As a producer-led project, Culture Beat has featured a number of vocalists and performers over the years. Early members included Jo van Nelsen, later joined by Jay Supreme and Lana E.. In 1993, Tania Evans became the group’s lead vocalist, remaining with the project until 1997, after which she was succeeded by Kim Sanders. Since 1999, Jackie Sangster has fronted Culture Beat, often joined on stage by Greek MC MC 4T.
