Real McCoy was created by producer, author, and artist Olaf ‘O‑Jay’ Jeglitza. Drawing on his broad musical influences and connections within the emerging Berlin club scene, Jeglitza teamed up with producer Frank ‘Quickmix’ Hassas to release their first mixtapes and tracks under the Real McCoy name during the mid-1980s.
Their first commercial success came with a rap version of Pump Up the Jam, originally by Technotronic, released under the name M.C. Sar & The Real McCoy. The track reached the Top 20 in the German Singles Chart, followed by the even bigger hit It’s On You, which charted across several European countries and sold over two million copies worldwide.
Over more than 25 years in the music industry, Real McCoy has achieved numerous awards and global success, selling nearly 20 million records. One of their most iconic releases, Another Night, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2018 and remains a defining dance anthem of the 1990s.
