The band promotes themselves as a 1950s rock ‘n’ roll trio, but not in the way one might typically imagine. There are no quiffs or DA haircuts, no drape jackets or rockabilly clothing, and not even much in the way of sideburns or obscure 1950s tracks. Instead, they are a professional, smart band playing a curated list of their favourite songs—mostly mainstream hits from the 50s, though they happily weave in other eras too. Audiences will hear some of their favourite country songs, a bit of blues, and even a few selections from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, all delivered with that classic 1950s sonic footprint. From Elvis’s “Devil in Disguise” and “Suspicious Minds” to The Searchers’ “Needles and Pins,” everything is played with pure enthusiasm and their own unique spin.
Their line-up consists of just three instruments: guitar, drums, and a mix of double and electric bass. It is a stripped-back, basic setup, but delivering a simple sound properly takes real skill. The bass and drums provide a tight, thumpy foundation, allowing the guitar to chug along smoothly underneath the vocal parts before stepping forward for the lead breaks. A carefully balanced live mix keeps the overall sound incredibly full. While they do not play much of Buddy Holly’s catalogue, their sonic texture is quite similar. Naturally, they embellish the arrangements a bit with extra drum fills and custom guitar solos where there might not have been one on the original record. They rarely copy a track note-for-note because they are not a tribute act—they do things entirely their own way. Over the years, independent feedback from audiences has consistently praised them for capturing the true essence of the era, which is exactly what they strive to achieve. If they play a Johnny Cash song, it may not be an exact replica, but if you close your eyes, you will instantly think of Sun Studios.
The trio is a family unit. On guitar and lead vocals is “Dad,” an experienced frontman who has spent most of his life performing across the UK, Sweden, the USA, and Spain, sharing the stage with numerous household names and established acts. Holding down the rhythm section are his two sons, Anthony on bass and Jay on drums, both of whom grew up watching, listening, and absorbing the music in preparation for this project.
Today, the tight-knit band performs regularly at holiday centres, established clubs, and local pubs. They are even regularly flown out to Benidorm, Spain, to perform at what is widely regarded as one of the best entertainment venues in town.
