Rafael Sax is a UK-based, Ibiza-style saxophonist with fifteen years of extensive professional experience. Since moving to the UK in 2013, he has been an active force in both the London and Birmingham music scenes. As a highly versatile session musician, his diverse portfolio spans studio recordings, high-end functions, corporate events, theatre productions, cabaret acts, and high-profile tribute bands.
A graduate of the prestigious Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with a degree in Jazz, Rafael has developed a flawless reputation for improvising live alongside DJs or custom backing tracks. His extensive musical range allows him to seamlessly blend into any genre, including funk, jazz, hip-hop, R&B, Latin, disco, house, ’80s anthems, and chillout music.
Over his distinguished career, Rafael has performed alongside some of the most celebrated artists in the UK and Europe. A particular career highlight includes sharing the stage with legendary American saxophonist Kirk Whalum—a 12-time Grammy nominee best known for his iconic saxophone solo on Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.”
For over a decade, Rafael Sax has brought his high-octane energy to premier nightlife venues and festivals across the country and overseas. His notable performances include sets at London’s Charlie Wright’s Jazz Club, Leeds’ The Warehouse, Liverpool’s Sports & Music Bar, and Birmingham’s Nuvo, Fumo, Chameleon, and Dirty Martini, as well as the Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul Festival. Internationally, he spent two consecutive summer seasons as a resident saxophonist in Amora, Portugal, performing at exclusive Ibiza-style beach parties alongside elite DJs, electric violinists, percussionists, and vocalists.
